The third book widens the setting to a grand summer estate by Geneva Lake, where old flames, family pressures, and suspicions put Charlie himself under a hard spotlight.

One of the steady themes across the books is independence. Viv wants work, not just comfort. Charlie wants to protect her but also has to learn that she will chase answers with or without permission. That tension, along with the gap between their backgrounds, gives the series an emotional thread that carries beyond each individual case.

What should you expect overall? These are approachable historical mysteries with real stakes but a lighter touch than hard-boiled noir.
