Author bio
Victoria Roberts writes Scottish historical romances full of clan trouble, spies, stubborn women, and Highland men who are usually in over their heads the moment they fall in love. She lives in western Pennsylvania with her husband, their two children, and a very spoiled dog. That mix of everyday family life and old-world Scotland tells you a lot about her books. They are warm, fast-moving, and happy to pair danger with humor.
Writing came early for her. Roberts has said she wrote her first young adult novella at sixteen, before she had even picked up a romance novel. Later, after discovering romance fiction, she found her way to Scottish historicals through a book by Hannah Howell. That was the turning point. The clans, the brogue, the Highlands, and the men in kilts gave her the kind of story world she wanted to build for herself.
Her debut novel, Temptation in a Kilt, arrived in 2012 and opened the Bad Boys of the Highlands trilogy. From the start, she leaned into the things she clearly enjoys most: long rides through rough country, old feuds, forced-proximity journeys, and couples who trade sharp words before they admit what they feel. The second book, X Marks the Scot, won the 2013 RT Reviewers' Choice Award for Best Medieval Historical Romance.
That was a strong early sign that she had found her lane.
The Bad Boys of the Highlands books show one side of her writing, all swagger, banter, and clan politics. The later Highland Spies series adds more court danger and divided loyalties. In My Highland Spy, a proud Scottish laird and an English spy are pushed together under one roof. Kilts and Daggers and Kill or Be Kilt keep that blend of romance and intrigue going, with journeys, murder plots, and wary alliances carrying the stories forward. My Highland Spy later picked up BTS Book Reviews' Red Carpet awards for Best Historical and Book of the Year.
She also writes shorter fiction. Kilts and Kisses and Tartans and Trysts are novellas, but they still have her favorite ingredients: troubled clans, women trying to reclaim control over their own lives, and Highland heroes who do not always realize how deep they are in until it is too late. Even in a shorter space, she likes secrets, loyalty tests, and a little emotional tug-of-war.
She does not seem interested in writing passive people.
Across her books, the pattern is easy to see. She likes women who are smarter and braver than the men first assume. She likes men with power who still have to earn trust. And she likes plots where the road to love runs straight through deception, political trouble, or family duty.
That shows up again in Snakes in the Garden, a later historical story with an assassin for the Crown, a Highland captain, and a stronger mystery thread running through the romance. It fits neatly beside her other work because the setting, the tension between Scotland and England, and the pull between duty and feeling are all still there. She may shift the balance from one book to another, but the core appeal stays recognizable.
Outside her novels, Roberts has been involved with Romance Writers of America and local chapters, and she has contributed to Celtic Guide. Off the page, she is open about loving Scottish festivals and going to them with her clan, which feels very on brand. Her books come from that same affection. They are not about modern Scotland at all, but they are written by someone who enjoys the history, the atmosphere, and the fun of sending proud people into trouble and seeing whether love can get them out again.
