Author bio

Valerie M Bodden grew up in Wisconsin with a deep love for stories, faith, and quiet time with a book. She often talks about having three great loves, Jesus, her family, and books, with chocolate happily tagging along as a fourth. Today she is a USA Today bestselling author of Christian fiction, living in Texas with her high school sweetheart husband and their four children.

As a child she was the one sneaking a flashlight under the covers to finish just one more chapter. Church, school, and a steady stream of library visits shaped the way she saw the world, and she learned early that stories could be a gentle way to talk about big questions. Those small habits would eventually grow into a calling.

Before she ever wrote about Hope Springs or River Falls, Bodden spent years writing for children. She has authored hundreds of nonfiction books for young readers on everything from science and history to biographies and how things work. That work taught her how to explain complicated ideas in clear language and to respect her readers' intelligence, even when they are very young. Along the way she also began helping other writers shape their own manuscripts through editorial work and mentoring.

Fiction, though, kept tugging at her heart.

Out of that tug came the idea to write contemporary Christian romances about ordinary believers facing very real struggles. Bodden wanted stories where faith is more than a backdrop, where questions about suffering, forgiveness, and second chances sit right alongside small town life and falling in love. That vision turned into the Hope Springs series, set in a lakeside Wisconsin town filled with farmers, teachers, musicians, and pastors who lean on each other as much as they lean on God.

In Not Until Forever, a career driven heroine and the man whose proposal she once refused find each other again beside a hospital bed and must decide what grace looks like in the middle of grief. Not Until You follows a disgraced Christian musician and a young widow as they navigate family expectations, guilt, and the fragile hope of a new start. In River Falls, books like Pieces of Forever, Songs of Home, and Memories of the Heart explore scars that are visible and invisible, a marriage stretched to its breaking point, and the way community can hold people together when everything else feels lost.

Her stories do not shy away from hard things, but they always move toward hope.

The River Falls novels gather the big, loving Calvano family in a Tennessee town where siblings, in laws, and side characters crowd the pages with warmth, teasing, and honest conversations about faith. Trinity Bay, her newer series, heads north to Wisconsin's Lake Superior shoreline to follow the adventurous Christiansen family as they juggle a family lodge, church life, and unexpected romance. With Trusting His Promise, part of the multi author Love on Sanctuary Shores collection, she steps into island life on Lake Huron, writing about forgiveness and learning to trust again.

Behind the scenes, Bodden's writing life looks a lot like everyone else's ordinary days. She drafts in the margins between family activities, school events, and church commitments. She loves digging in the garden, browsing shelves for her next read, and lingering over long conversations with friends. After moving from snowy Wisconsin to much warmer Texas, she jokes that she does not miss shoveling at all, even if the rest of her family still cheers for a white Christmas.

Through all of it, her goal stays simple, to tell stories that point readers back to the steadfast love of God. Her characters wrestle with shame, doubts, and broken dreams, but they are never left there. Page by page, Bodden invites readers to remember that grace is real, that community matters, and that even the most wounded heart is not beyond the reach of a gentle, faithful God.
