Series background & context
The Tyler Family series throws you straight into the neon-lit, smoky world of London’s club scene. At its heart is Anna Davis, a young woman who has finally run from her violent gangster boyfriend and is desperate for a fresh start where he can’t find her.
In Runaway Girl she stumbles into Tanya Smith, a stripper with a sharp sense of humour and a generous streak. The two women quickly become business partners, pooling their grit and charm to open a nightclub that becomes one of the hottest spots in the city. The club brings money and a sense of belonging, but it also draws the attention of the man who really controls the local patch: Freddie Tyler.
Freddie is an East End crime boss used to getting his own way, and at first he looks like the kind of man Anna should avoid. Over the series their relationship deepens from wary attraction to something more complicated, as business deals, turf wars and old enemies force them to rely on one another. The books follow the couple as they try to build a life together while the ground keeps shifting under their feet.
Each novel pushes the stakes higher. A missing girl from one of Freddie’s clubs brings the police crashing into their world. A rival gang moves in, testing how far the Tylers will go to defend their territory. A ruthless Russian outfit wants revenge for past bloodshed. Inside the firm, betrayals and divided loyalties threaten to do as much damage as any outside enemy.
Anna’s journey is the spine of the series. She grows from frightened runaway to confident operator, learning how to negotiate with gangsters, read a room of dangerous men and still look out for Tanya, the club staff and her own hard-won independence. Freddie’s arc runs alongside hers, balancing his instinct for violence with his love for Anna and his desire to protect the empire he built.
Along the way you get the quieter moments that make the danger matter: hangovers in the cold light of morning, cramped flats above busy streets, and the small acts of loyalty that hold a found family together. The tone is gritty and tense but threaded with romance, dark humour and flashes of normal life trying to survive amid the chaos.
Read the books in order, starting with Runaway Girl, to see how each decision echoes into the next crisis. By the time you reach later titles like Reckless Girl, Fearless Girl and Ruthless Girl, you’ve watched Anna and Freddie earn every scar and every small victory.
