2017

Series background & context

The Twist of Fate books are co-written by Sloane Kennedy and Lucy Lennox and built around a simple idea: one unexpected moment can turn a life completely sideways. Each novel follows a different couple in a loosely connected universe, and you can read them on their own or in order.

In Lost and Found, a teen betrayal still shapes two men fifteen years later. Xander, now a wilderness guide in the Rockies, wants nothing more than distance from the wealthy best friend who failed him when he needed help most. When Bennett shows up on a backcountry trip with the inner city kids he mentors, anger collides with the connection they never really lost.

Safe and Sound pairs polished, self-indulgent Aiden with Ash, a young barista desperately trying to escape an abusive boyfriend. What starts as casual flirting in a coffee shop becomes a slow, careful rescue as Aiden confronts his own grief and survivor’s guilt, and Ash learns how to accept help without losing himself.

In Body and Soul, Oz has walked away from an exhausting international modeling career to prove there is more to him than a pretty face. He lands in Colorado, trying to design his own fashion line, and runs headlong into Jake, a quiet doctor hiding in a cabin in the woods with secrets that make it dangerous for him to care about anyone. The book mixes small town charm with a suspense thread that pulls Jake’s past into the open.

Above and Beyond focuses on Lucky, a college student and aspiring high risk search and rescue tech, and Zach, the older former Army Ranger he once humiliated himself in front of by confessing a crush. When Lucky’s dads send Zach to check on him and escalating threats follow them into rugged mountain terrain, the two men are forced to decide whether they will keep pretending their feelings are one sided.

Throughout the series you will see familiar hallmarks from both authors: found family, queer characters who are allowed to be messy and vulnerable, and supportive side casts who meddle as often as they help. The stories balance humor with real danger and do not shy away from trauma, but they always circle back to the idea that a single twist of fate can also lead you exactly where you were meant to be.
