Kendra winds up posing as Audrey while working with FBI analyst Joe Rose, and the story leans into questions of trust, loyalty, and how much of a person can be hidden behind a false identity.

What links both books is not just the sister story, but the feeling that personal history and national danger keep crashing into each other. The twins are not simply solving cases. There is a nice faith thread here too, but the series never stops moving long enough to get preachy.
