Series background & context

Trouble in Texas follows a tight-knit group of former Civil War soldiers who once served as Regulators at Andersonville Prison. Now they’ve scattered to Broken Wheel, Texas, where their skills at spotting trouble are desperately needed—and where romance keeps derailing their carefully laid plans.

In Swept Away, Ruthy MacNeil is literally washed out of a miserable situation when a river crossing goes wrong and she’s separated from the family who overworks her. Luke Stone pulls her from the flood while on his way to reclaim a ranch stolen from his murdered father. He doesn’t have time for a stray woman, but Ruthy refuses to be left behind as his fight with a brutal land baron escalates.

Fired Up features Glynna Greer, a twice-widowed woman trying to run a café with terrible food in a town full of opinionated cowhands. Regulator Dare Riker has decided he’s done charging into gunfire, but someone seems determined to kill him anyway. As fires and “accidents” mount, he has to figure out who wants him dead—and whether he dares risk his heart again.

In Stuck Together, lawman Vince Yates, known as “Invincible Vince,” meets his match in Tina Cahill, a crusader who pickets the local saloon every afternoon. While Vince juggles a difficult family suddenly dumped in his lap, Tina’s protests stir up a secret tied to a dangerous criminal. The two keep being thrown together as Broken Wheel’s troubles come to a head.

The trilogy works as an ensemble piece: the Regulators show up in every book, backing each other in gunfights and teasing each other over budding romances. If you like camaraderie, running battles with a common enemy, and a town slowly being tamed, Trouble in Texas is a satisfying ride.
