Series background & context

Dan Abnett's Titans series begins with old friends recovering something they hadn't fully known they were missing. Wally West returns to a world where his absence has affected the memories and relationships of the people closest to him. His arrival brings Nightwing, Donna Troy, Arsenal, Garth and Lilith back together, renewing a team whose shared history matters as much as the powers its members bring to a fight.

The Return of Wally West follows the group as they investigate the force responsible for what has happened to their memories. Wally's return is a reunion, but it is also evidence that their understanding of their own lives is incomplete. The Titans need to discover who interfered with them and why. Rebuilding the team therefore means facing a mystery about its past while deciding what its members can accomplish together in the present.

Remembering one another creates a new responsibility.

The cast gives that investigation an emotional foundation. These heroes have grown beyond their earliest roles, but the friendships formed during those years remain important. Nightwing's experience, Donna's strength, Wally's speed and the different abilities of their friends make them useful allies. Their personal connections also make the danger more intimate. An attack on their history affects the trust and sense of belonging that allow them to work as a group in the first place.

The setting moves into New York as the reunited heroes try to establish lives there. In Made in Manhattan, their attention turns to Meta Solutions, a company connected with questions about superhuman powers. The city gives them a place to live and operate while the investigation tests how well their renewed partnership functions. Building a future together requires more than recovering memories. They still have to respond to new threats and make decisions as people whose lives have continued to change.

Across the collected run, superhero action shares space with tensions about identity, trust and the team's place in the wider DC world. Its opening comes out of DC Universe: Rebirth, giving the memory mystery a context beyond the Titans themselves. Even so, the personal question stays clear: what do these people mean to one another, and what happens when someone tries to alter that connection? Their relationships turn an abstract disturbance in continuity into something they have reasons to confront directly.

Start with The Return of Wally West, then continue with Made in Manhattan and the following collections. The tone is superhero team adventure built around friendship and a continuing investigation. Readers who enjoy reunions that bring unresolved questions with them will find that combination central to the series. The Titans are trying to recover an understanding of their shared past while proving that the bonds they have rediscovered can support a working team now.
