The appeal here is different from Lynn's suspense novels, but some of her favorite themes remain. These are still stories about trust, duty, courage, and impossible choices. The danger is usually quieter than in her thrillers, though not absent. Social rules can trap a character just as surely as a villain can. A secret identity, a family expectation, or the wrong marriage match can carry real stakes when the whole society is built around rank and reputation.

The Austen connection gives the series some extra charm.
