Thicker Than Blood Books in Order

The Thicker Than Blood series is a set of connected contemporary Christian suspense novels about women whose lives have been shaped by loss, addiction, fractured families, and choices they cannot undo. The fourth novel, Running on Empty, centers on Del Mangini, a young woman barely managing to get by when she learns that she was adopted. The arrival of eight-year-old Callie, who says she is Del’s half sister, sends both of them searching for answers while they face homelessness, danger, and a past that powerful people would rather leave buried.

These are not cozy mysteries, even when the bookshelves and ranch life sound inviting. The characters face threatening people, criminal schemes, money problems, and memories that are hard to live with. Still, the series does not treat anyone as beyond help. Forgiveness, sobriety, honesty, and family reconciliation are recurring concerns.

The tone is emotionally direct and suspenseful, with Christian faith woven through the characters’ decisions rather than used as a shortcut around hardship.
