The Witchlands Books in Order

The Witchlands is a sprawling young adult fantasy series set on a continent divided among rival empires, where many people are born with a witchery, a particular kind of magic. Some can control wind or fire. Others can see truth, sense blood, or perceive the invisible threads tying people together. Those gifts are useful, feared, and often treated as tools of power.

At the center of the series are Safiya fon Hasstrel and Iseult det Midenzi, best friends known as heartsisters. Safi is a Truthwitch who can tell truth from lies. Iseult is a Threadwitch who can see emotional bonds and connections, though her own heart is much harder for her to read. Both want the freedom to make their own choices, but Safi's rare magic puts them directly in the path of rulers, mercenaries, and people who would use her gift to shape a coming war.

Their friendship is the series' anchor.

The first books send Safi and Iseult across dangerous seas and contested borders, where they meet Prince Merik Nihar, a Windwitch and privateer, and Aeduan, a Bloodwitch with his own reasons for pursuing them. The story grows beyond one quest as each character takes on a separate route through the Witchlands. Alliances shift, old grudges surface, and people who begin as enemies sometimes become the only allies left.

The setting matters as much as the magic. The Witchlands includes port cities, pirate waters, royal courts, mountain passes, convents, and regions strained by poverty and war. Political choices have personal consequences, particularly for characters who are expected to serve a crown, a family, or a prophecy rather than themselves. Magic is woven into daily life, but it is never simple or free from risk.

The main sequence begins with Truthwitch and continues through Windwitch, Bloodwitch, Witchshadow, and Witchlight. Sightwitch is an illustrated companion novella set in the same world. It follows Ryber Fortiza, a young woman raised among future-seeing Sightwitches, and reveals important history that deepens the larger story.

Expect a fast-moving fantasy with multiple viewpoints, sharp political tension, sea travel, battles, romance, and long-running mysteries. At its heart, though, the series keeps returning to trust. Safi, Iseult, Merik, Aeduan, and their allies must decide who they are when the world keeps demanding that they become something else.
