Series background & context
Supers of Project 12 takes superhero tropes and makes them more intimate and a little sadder. Astrid has powers, but they do not feel glamorous. They are tangled up with missing childhood memories, medical experimentation, and the half-buried history of the group home where she and eleven other children were shaped into something unnatural. In Elites, she is already an adult trying to live with those gifts when the past starts pushing its way back in.
This is not capes-on-rooftops fun.
The series is more interested in found family, trauma, and the cost of being engineered for other people's purposes. As Astrid meets others from Project 12 and starts building a team, the books widen into vigilante action, city protection, and the mystery of who created them and why. Romance threads through the story, but the core appeal is the group dynamic and the search for the truth.
