The Streets of Maradaine Books in Order

If the other Maradaine series look at the city from the university, the constabulary, or Parliament, these books stay close to the neighborhood. The Streets of Maradaine novels follow Asti and Verci Rynax, two former thieves who tried to go straight and found that the city had other plans. The tone is caper-heavy fantasy, but it is also very much a story about neighbors, rent, damage, loyalty, and the hard work of protecting ordinary people.

Asti and Verci are a strong pair because they want similar things for different reasons. Asti comes back from intelligence work damaged and frayed, while Verci has family responsibilities that make the dream of an honest life feel urgent. When the Holver Alley fire destroys their shop and home, that dream burns with it. In The Holver Alley Crew, survival pushes them back toward theft, but what starts as a practical heist quickly becomes a fight over who destroyed their street and why.

That is the pattern the series builds on. These are not glamorous master-criminal books about people stealing for sport. The crew is made up of neighbors, friends, and other people the city has already knocked sideways. Their schemes in Lady Henterman’s Wardrobe and The Fenmere Job come out of pressure from landlords, nobles, gangs, and drug networks that see working-class neighborhoods as easy ground to exploit. The jobs are exciting, but they are also personal.

North Seleth and Holver Alley matter a lot here. Maresca makes the streets feel used, inhabited, and worth saving. Shops, apartments, bakeries, pubs, and alleyways all carry weight, so the stakes are not abstract. When the crew takes a risk, it is usually for a block, a family, or a whole pocket of the city that would otherwise be written off by people with money and influence.

This series has a lot of heart.

It is also probably the warmest branch of Maradaine, even when terrible things are happening. The banter is good, the capers are clever, and the sense of found family is strong. Later books such as The Quarrygate Gambit keep stretching the crew in new directions, but the core remains the same: smart people with uneven pasts trying to hold onto a community that bigger forces keep squeezing. If you like heists with feeling, this is the set to reach for.
