Series background & context
The Royals of Forsyth University is Lawson's biggest shared world, co-written with Samantha Rue, and it runs on status, ritual, and controlled cruelty. Forsyth is a college, but it feels more like a private kingdom split into ruling factions. Each section of the series follows a different heroine and a different set of men, starting with the Lords in Lords of Pain, moving to the Dukes in Dukes of Ruin, then the Princes in Princes of Chaos, and later the Barons in Barons of Decay.
Everything is hierarchical here.
Titles matter. Family names matter. Reputation matters most of all. The women at the center of each arc are pulled into bargains they never truly control, whether that means contracts, captivity, selection rituals, or arranged futures. The men are powerful, damaged, territorial, and often brutal, but the books are not only about dominance. They are also about the cost of power, the hunger for belonging, and the strange ways protection and possession can blur together.
If you are new to the series, expect dark college romance with strong bully elements, why choose relationships, and a campus world built almost like organized crime with crowns. It is sprawling, intense, and deliberately messy. Every trilogy opens a new door into the same dangerous city.
