Series background & context

The Road to Hell series mixes post apocalyptic dystopia with demon romance. Thirteen years after bombs fell and a devastating war reshaped the United States, a wall divides the surviving states from the ruined central lands, and a tear between worlds has opened the gateway to Hell.

River never asked to be part of any of this. Drafted to serve at the wall in Good Intentions, she leaves behind the small town she thought she would never escape. On the other side of the conflict is Kobal, a demon whose entire life has been aimed at reclaiming his throne from Lucifer and fixing what was broken when the angels cast him out.

Their paths collide as the gateway destabilizes and monsters spill into the ruined territories. Forced to travel together through devastated cities and eerie, empty landscapes in Carved and The Road, River and Kobal slowly move from wary allies to something far more dangerous in a world that has little room for trust.

By Into Hell, the fight carries them beyond Earth’s surface and deep into the demon realm itself. Lucifer’s plans threaten both Hell and Earth, friends become enemies, and the line between sacrifice and survival blurs. Every victory costs something, and not everyone makes it out alive.

The series is gritty, violent, and unapologetically romantic, with angels, demons, and humans all making questionable choices in the name of love or duty. It also lays the groundwork for the Hell on Earth spin off, which shows what happens after the first war ends.
