The Reluctant Duke Books in Order

The Reluctant Duke begins with a very useful premise: a career soldier inherits a dukedom he does not want. Major Richard Sinclair expects to sort out the problem and go back to military life. Instead, he finds himself responsible for an estate, a dowager duchess, and three young women whose future depends on him learning how to be a proper duke.

That clash between battlefield practicality and aristocratic expectation gives the series its character. Richard is capable, but not polished. Lady Amanda Sinclair has already been holding things together at home, and she is in no mood to indulge male confusion. Their relationship gives the first book both spark and structure.

The later books widen the circle to include Lady Sarah, Captain Paul Marchand, Patrick O'Riley, Hannah Westley, and others caught in the same orbit. So although Richard's inheritance starts the series, it grows into a broader household story about loyalty, second chances, and people trying to build peaceful lives after war.

These books mix romance with estate worries, family responsibility, and military shadows that do not vanish just because the uniform comes off. They are warmer and more domestic than some high society Regencies, which is part of their charm.

Read them in order if you can. The characters carry their histories forward, and the pleasure is in watching reluctant duty slowly turn into belonging.
