The Reader Trilogy Books in Order

The Reader Trilogy, also called Sea of Ink and Gold, is a young adult fantasy series set in Kelanna, a world where most people have never seen a book and reading is tightly guarded by a secretive group called the Guard. The story begins with The Reader, when Sefia, a girl who has spent years on the run, loses the one person still protecting her: her aunt Nin.

Sefia's only real clue is the odd object her father left behind. It is a book, filled with symbols she cannot read at first, and it carries secrets tied to her parents, Nin's disappearance, and the forces hunting her. As she learns what the Book can do, Sefia has to decide how much of its power she is willing to use and whether a written future can be changed.

Her closest companion is Archer, a boy who has survived brutal exploitation as a forced fighter. He begins the series guarded and nearly wordless, but his journey is just as important as Sefia's. Their growing trust gives the books an emotional center, even as each of them has to face painful truths about their pasts. The trilogy also follows pirates, rebels, soldiers, and members of the Guard, so the story expands well beyond one quest.

The setting matters because information itself is a source of power. In Kelanna, the people who can read can preserve history, hide it, or use it to control others.
