Series background & context

The Outcasts is where Minerva Spencer first staked out her corner of Regency romance. Instead of focusing on perfectly polished debutantes and spotless dukes, these books follow people the ton does not quite know what to do with.

Across three novels you will meet heroines and heroes who have survived kidnapping, piracy, war, and scandal long before page one. They are titled, but their reputations are battered, and they carry experiences that do not fit tidy drawing room conversations.

In Dangerous, Lady Euphemia “Mia” Marlington returns to England after seventeen years in a North African harem. Her father is desperate to hide the truth and salvage the family’s standing, so he shoves her toward a marriage of convenience. The only man who will have her is Adam de Courtney, a widower rumored to have killed his first two wives. Watching Mia and Adam navigate gossip, trauma, and a surprisingly compatible partnership sets the tone for the series.

Barbarous widens the lens. Hugh Redvers is a privateer thought to be dead, and Lady Daphne Davenport is the respectable widow who has benefited from that mistake. She has quietly taken over property and income that should have been his. When Hugh walks back into her life, sun-burned and missing an eye, attraction and resentment collide. Someone also seems determined to see Daphne dead, giving their wary alliance very real stakes.

In Scandalous, a straight-laced missionary’s daughter crosses paths with a notorious sea captain and smuggler. Their journey pulls the reader from prim English parlors to rougher ports, asking what happens when a woman who has devoted her life to virtue falls for a man whose survival has depended on breaking rules.

All three books balance high adventure with intimate emotion. There are sea voyages, duels, and skirmishes, but also quiet domestic scenes where two people figure out how to live together after years of solitude or danger. The through line is that “respectable” society often knows little about the people it condemns, and that those pushed to the margins can still claim joy, friendship, and love.

If you enjoy Regencies that are a little wilder than the norm, with characters who have lived hard before they ever reach the altar, The Outcasts is a rich place to start.
