Series background & context

The McCaffertys series is Lisa Jackson in contemporary romance mode, with a strong Montana backbone. These books revolve around the McCafferty siblings, a family tied to a ranch, a reputation, and a habit of getting pulled into trouble right when they think life is under control.

The past is never as settled as they’d like.

The vibe is big-sky romance with a sharp edge. There’s plenty of attraction and banter, but Jackson also threads in danger and secrets, especially when the family closes ranks and decides to “handle it” themselves. That mix gives the series a satisfying pace, part relationship story, part mystery about what really happened behind the scenes.

The story begins with Thorne, where Thorne McCafferty rushes home after his sister is badly hurt in a car wreck. The last person he expects to face is Nicole Stevenson, a doctor from his past, and their reunion forces him to deal with unfinished business at the same time the family is trying to make sense of what happened.

In Matt, the spotlight shifts to another McCafferty brother and a law enforcement officer investigating the hit-and-run case. Their chemistry is immediate, but trust is harder, because the case keeps them circling the same questions about who is lying and why. The romance grows alongside the investigation, with both characters forced to admit what they really want.

Then Slade leans into a classic second-chance setup: Slade McCafferty comes face-to-face with Jamie Parsons, the woman whose heart he broke years ago. Old history is easy to dismiss until it’s standing in front of you, and the book is as much about growing up as it is about falling in love.

The series also includes Randi, which centers on the sister everyone is trying to protect. With investigator Kurt Striker hired to keep her and her son safe, the tension comes from a dangerous secret and the pressure of a family that loves hard, sometimes too hard.

Read these in order if you want the fullest picture of the accident, the fallout, and how the siblings’ lives overlap. If you pick one up at random, you’ll still get a complete romance, but you may miss the slow-building family dynamics that make the series feel lived in.
