Series background & context

The Lyon's Den Connected World is a Regency shared universe built around Mrs. Dove-Lyon's famous gambling establishment and her habit of turning scandal, wagers, and desperation into marriages. It is a premise that lets each author start with instant pressure, and Hildie McQueen uses that well in The Lyon's Laird.

Her book brings a Scottish laird into London and drops him into one of the connected world's favorite situations, a high-stakes bargain that ends with an unexpected bride. That gives the romance both the polished surface of Regency society and the rougher Highland edge McQueen handles so comfortably.

This world is fun because the rules are clear. People arrive at the Den with problems. Mrs. Dove-Lyon interferes. A match follows, usually with a lot more chemistry and trouble than anyone planned for. That makes the books easy to jump into even if you have not read every other installment.

If you like forced proximity, marriage bargains, London scandal, and heroes who are caught flat-footed by love, McQueen's entry here is a good fit.
