Series background & context

The Lochmore Legacy is a four-author historical romance sequence built around Lochmore, a Scottish castle with a long memory. The books share a place, a family history, and an unfolding mystery, while each author gives a different couple their own complete romance. It is a good choice for readers who like a strong setting and want several connected stories without following the same pair from book to book.

The castle is more than a backdrop. Lochmore brings together land, inheritance, clan tensions, family expectations, and old secrets that have not settled with time. The Scottish landscape adds its own pressure too: rough weather, distance from London, and a community where everyone knows who belongs, who does not, and who may be hiding something.

The past is always nearby.

Lara Temple’s contribution is Unlaced by the Highland Duke, the second book in the collection. Practical widow Joane Langdale is sent to Scotland to care for Jamie, the young son of Benneit, Duke of Lochmore. Joane expects to be overlooked, as she has been for much of her life. Instead, she finds a difficult but increasingly close connection with Benneit, another widow or widower trying to make the right choices for a child and an estate.

Their romance is a slow-burn one. Joane has spent years being useful to other people, while Benneit is pulled between his son’s future, pressure to remarry, and the wider demands placed on him as duke. The castle gives them forced proximity, but the emotional stakes come from whether they can believe they deserve a fuller life than the one they have accepted.

Across the wider collection, Lochmore’s history and a continuing mystery create links between the books. That thread rewards readers who begin at the start, even though each romance has its own resolution. The series moves through relationships shaped by duty, grief, family alliances, and the question of what people owe to the place they call home.

The tone blends Scottish historical atmosphere with intimate romance. Expect castles, estates, family disputes, children, and people who are wary of trusting what they most want. There is some Gothic flavor in the setting and its secrets, but the stories remain rooted in relationships rather than spectacle.

For the fullest experience, start with His Convenient Highland Wedding and continue to Unlaced by the Highland Duke. If you are reading mainly for Lara Temple, her book can still be enjoyed on its own, with enough context to follow Joane and Benneit’s story while leaving the larger Lochmore mystery in the background.
