She is skeptical, methodical, and increasingly forced to accept that the world is not operating by the rules she thought it was. He is more comfortable with danger, but not necessarily with the truths behind it.

The tone sits somewhere between medical thriller, conspiracy novel, and cosmic mystery. If you like Wilson's Secret History material but want an entry point that leans more toward labs, cults, and globe-spanning investigation than urban fantasy, this is the place to start.
