Series background & context
The Hollingsworth books are where Laura Pavlov first laid out many of the things she still does well, big feelings, sports, loyal families, and couples who have to fight for the life they want. The series starts with Charlotte's Tangled Web, which follows Charlotte Ford and Daniel Hollingsworth from close childhood friendship into a serious love story shaped by competition, distance, and future plans that pull them in different directions.
From there, the books grow into more of a family saga. Charlotte Untangled stays with Charlotte and Daniel as college and ambition test everything they think they know about forever. Later books widen the lens and move deeper into the Hollingsworth orbit, bringing in Emerson, Indy, and Finn.
That structure makes this series feel different from Pavlov's later small-town standalones. The stories are more serial, more rooted in shared history, and more interested in what happens after two people fall in love. Running and football matter here, but mostly as pressure points. The bigger questions are about identity, loyalty, family expectation, and whether love can hold when life stops being easy.
There is a stronger young adult and new adult feel in these books than in her later work. First love, college choices, long-distance strain, and growing up under a well-known family name all shape the emotional stakes. The romance is intense, but so is the coming-of-age side of the series.
If you want to see Pavlov's earlier voice and you like family-heavy romance that stretches across more than one stage of life, The Hollingsworth books are a good place to go.
