Even with that large canvas, the books are not dry or distant. They still read like character stories. Lorhen wants peace and cannot get it. Naiki wants justice and keeps finding complications. Saoirse is handed eternity at the exact moment ordinary survival was already in doubt. The supernatural machinery works because each story gives it a human center.

So if you want Murphy at her more historical and myth-heavy, this is a strong place to go. The Heartstrike books mix ancient grudges, immortal politics, and emotional fallout in a way that feels broader than a single-city urban fantasy, but still personal enough to keep you invested scene by scene.
