Series background & context
Six people with different supernatural gifts join a search for three stars in the Guardians Trilogy. Their quest takes them through Greece, Italy, and Ireland, bringing romance into a continuing struggle against a dark power. The group includes a seer, magician, traveler, mermaid, werewolf, and immortal. Those identities make each person useful in a different way, but they also come with secrets that make cooperation more complicated than simply agreeing to travel together.
Stars of Fortune begins with Sasha Riggs, an artist troubled by dreams that appear in her paintings. Her visions lead her to Corfu, where she meets people she has already drawn. The connection gives her reason to think the dreams belong to a larger purpose. Understanding what she can see is one part of that purpose; accepting the help of people she scarcely knows is another.
The first search concerns the fire star. Sasha's relationship with magician Bran Killian develops while the group learns how to work together and defend itself. Bran's ability to recognize and support her gift doesn't remove the uncertainty of being a seer. Visions can point toward danger without providing a complete set of instructions. The other guardians bring strengths she lacks, and their growing trust becomes as necessary as their individual powers.
The stars connect the journeys, but the group connects the books.
Bay of Sighs moves the search to Capri and brings Annika and Sawyer into focus. Annika is a mermaid whose time away from the sea has limits. Sawyer's ability to travel through space and time makes him important to the quest, but it doesn't automatically resolve the problem of loving someone whose life belongs elsewhere. Their romance gives the broader mission a personal question about time, place, and what a future together could mean.
Island of Glass takes the guardians to Ireland, where the search for the ice star puts Doyle's past close at hand. The immortal and Riley, an archaeologist with a werewolf's nature, become the featured couple. Across the trilogy, the locations change while the threat and shared goal remain connected. Each new place asks something different of the group, and the members' histories affect more than their private feelings.
Read Stars of Fortune, Bay of Sighs, and Island of Glass in order. The series is fantasy romance with travel, magical objects, and a sustained enemy, while the developing group offers the feel of a chosen family. Each book gives one couple more attention without setting aside the other guardians. Readers who like different kinds of supernatural characters sharing a mission will find that structure throughout. The central challenge is to turn their varied gifts and loyalties into a common defense before the stars become a source of power for someone else.
