The Guardians Books in Order

The Guardians is Meljean Brook's paranormal romance series about human men and women given angelic powers to protect the world from demons and nosferatu. The books sit between paranormal romance and urban fantasy. There are investigations, supernatural battles, old bargains, and a long-running struggle over the future of Heaven, Hell, and Earth, but every main novel also gives one central couple a full romantic story.

The Guardians were once human. Their powers make them stronger, faster, and harder to kill, but they still live among ordinary people and must follow rules built around protecting human life and free will. That moral line gives the series much of its tension. The enemy is not always obvious, and doing the right thing can still cost a character dearly.

Demon Angel is the natural place to begin. It introduces Lilith, a demon who has spent centuries serving Hell, and Hugh Castleford, a former knight turned Guardian who has spent just as long fighting her. Their history runs from medieval England to modern-day San Francisco, where a new threat forces them into an uneasy alliance. It establishes the big emotional question that carries through the series: can people shaped by duty, guilt, or darkness still choose something better?

The world grows outward from there. Demon Moon follows vampire Colin Ames-Beaumont and the curious Savi Murray. Demon Night brings Guardian Ethan McCabe, also called Drifter, into the path of Charlie Newcomb when vampires target her family. In Demon Bound, Alice Grey faces the cost of a bargain with a demon, and the larger series mythology starts shifting in major ways.

No one gets an easy assignment.

Later books such as Demon Forged, Demon Blood, Demon Marked, and Guardian Demon raise the stakes while focusing on different pairs of characters. Old loyalties break, prophecies matter, and the Guardians have to confront secrets inside their own ranks. The series has an ongoing arc, so publication order is the smoothest route, especially from Demon Bound onward.

There are also several novellas. Falling for Anthony comes first in publication order and introduces some early history, though it is not required before Demon Angel. Other shorter stories sit between novels or outside the main arc, making them useful extras rather than obstacles. Brook's reading guidance makes clear that the novels can be understood individually, but the emotional echoes are stronger if you follow the sequence.

Expect a dark, sexy, action-heavy series with demons, vampires, angels, detectives, warriors, and people trying to keep their choices their own. Start with Demon Angel for the clearest introduction, then continue through the novels in order if you want the full picture.
