A Gathering of Dragons is Meljean Brook's barbarian fantasy romance series, published under the name Milla Vane. It takes place in the Western Realms, a harsh world of warrior peoples, walled kingdoms, dangerous magic, gods, demons, and old violence that has never fully stayed in the past. Laina's quest for the goddess Vela requires her to serve a man she has sworn to kill, while Saxen is trying to make amends after years of torture and the damage tied to his family. The Destroyer's approaching army keeps the personal stakes connected to a much larger fight.
