Series background & context
The Gift Legacy Companion offers a different route into the world of Emelynn Taylor and the Fliers. Its first novel, Lover Betrayed, retells the events of Secret Sky from the point of view of Jackson Delaney, the man whose choices shape much of Emelynn's early story.
Jackson is not starting from the same place as Emelynn. After his father's unexpected death, he inherits a successful New Orleans development company with a damaged reputation. He wants to clean up the family name, but a disowned half-brother challenges his inheritance. Then Jackson's wife disappears, turning an already messy family situation into a personal crisis.
He is willing to go too far for answers.
Jackson reaches out to people connected to his father's darker dealings and edges closer to the Tribunal Novem, a powerful group of elite Fliers. His search brings him into contact with Emelynn, who does not yet understand her own ability to fly or the hidden world around her. Their meeting is not accidental, and Jackson pulls her into a mission shaped by revenge, fear, and deception.
Because the companion book covers much of the same ground as Secret Sky, it is less a side adventure than a shift in perspective. Readers see the misunderstandings, romantic tension, and hidden motives from Jackson's side. The change matters because he has different information, different loyalties, and much more at stake in the family conflict that surrounds him.
The story moves between the pressures of Jackson's business and family life and the secretive supernatural world that Emelynn is only beginning to enter. It has the same mix of suspense, romance, hidden identities, and dangerous alliances as the main Gift Legacy novels, but Jackson's viewpoint makes the moral questions feel sharper. He wants to protect people, settle old scores, and regain control, even when those goals pull against one another.
This is a companion novel, not a replacement for the main series. New readers can begin with Secret Sky to meet Emelynn and understand the core premise, then read Lover Betrayed after it for Jackson's version of the events. It can also work well at the end of the series for readers who want to return to its first major turning point with a fuller view of the people involved.
Expect a character-driven supernatural thriller in which no one has all the facts, and one lie can grow into a much larger problem.
