The Fahllen Books in Order

The Fahllen is one of the darkest corners of M Leighton's catalog. It is young adult paranormal fiction, but it leans closer to horror than some of her other early series. The mood is uneasy right from the start, and the supernatural elements are meant to feel strange, threatening, and a little grotesque.

The story begins with Carson Porter, a quiet seventeen-year-old whose ordinary life starts to split open in ways she never could have expected. Her body is changing, the dead are no longer staying dead in the way they should, and Derek Hrolf enters the picture carrying exactly the kind of danger his name suggests. Carson is not becoming something glamorous. She is being pulled toward a destiny she does not understand.

The first book, The Reaping, introduces a world of reapers, soul collectors, mirrors that cannot be trusted, and a twin sister who haunts Carson from the edges. It is full of motion and discovery, but it also has that unsettling feeling that nothing Carson learns is going to make her life easier.

The Reckoning turns all of that pressure into obligation. Carson has to deal with changes in Derek, the threat from her sister, and the growing realization that her role in this world is larger and deadlier than she thought. The scale gets bigger, but the story stays personal because Carson never stops being the emotional center of it.

If you want Leighton at her weirdest and most shadowy, this is the series to try. It is still driven by connection and longing, but the atmosphere is much darker, and the paranormal side is not there just for decoration. It changes everything.
