Series background & context
The Exception series is an earlier Adriana Locke romance world with a stronger romantic suspense edge. It is still built around heat, banter, and big feelings, but the tension is darker than in many of her later family series.
The main couple in The Exception is Jada Stanley and Cane Alexander. Jada is trying to start over and protect herself with rules. Cane has rules of his own, mostly designed to keep life simple and complication-free. Naturally, they become each other’s complication almost immediately.
There is danger here too.
Cane is the kind of bad-boy hero who draws attention, and Jada’s connection to him comes with more risk than she expects. The book mixes opposites-attract romance with suspense, secrets, and the question of whether someone can be both the person you should avoid and the person who makes you feel alive again.
The Connection is a novella that follows Jada and Cane after they have stopped fighting what is between them. A Las Vegas escape sounds like a break from real life, but the series does not treat escape as a magic fix. The emotional pull between them is still there, and so are the complications.
The Perception turns to Kari Stanley and Max Quinn. Kari has carried a secret for a long time. Max, a stranger who helps when her car breaks down, has his own past to answer for. Their romance is quieter in setup but still tied to trust, truth, and whether two guarded people can let each other in.
This is a good series for readers who want Locke’s romance voice with a little more danger and mystery. Read The Exception first for the core setup, then continue through the novella and The Perception.
