The Enfield Horror Books in Order

The Enfield Horror leans more toward creature horror than classic haunted-house fiction, though it still carries Ron Ripley's usual love of local history, small-town fear, and relentless danger. The setup begins in the woods near Enfield, where an autumn storm reveals a hidden lodge and releases something that should have stayed trapped.

What comes out is not subtle.

People start vanishing, eyewitness stories sound impossible, and the local authorities are forced to take the threat seriously whether they want to or not. Officer Tom Henderson is one of the key figures in the struggle, and the books work because the danger feels immediate and physical. This is not a ghost quietly lingering in a hallway. It is a hunter.

That shift gives the story a different flavor from Ripley's Shane Ryan books. There is still supernatural lore in the background, but the tension is built around survival, pursuit, and figuring out how to stop an ancient evil before the town is torn apart. The setting matters too. Enfield feels rural, exposed, and cut off enough for panic to spread quickly.

If you want one of Ripley's faster, more creature-driven stories, this is a good pick. It has the same readable pace as his ghost fiction, but the threat comes at the characters head-on, with claws, appetite, and very little patience.
