The Devil's Peak

by Greig Beck

2025

An earthquake uncovers a missing page from the earliest Bible, rumored to reveal a route into Hell. As plagues, deformities and monstrous apparitions spread, disillusioned ex Reaper operative Drake Stoker joins a clandestine Vatican order to locate the demonic gateway and seal it before the world falls.

Series background & context

The Devils Peak books shift Becks focus from ancient beasts toward something closer to religious horror. Instead of dinosaurs or megalodons, the central threat is the idea that Hell may be real, reachable and on the verge of spilling into our world.

In The Devil's Peak an earthquake in the Middle East exposes a missing page from the earliest version of the Bible, rumored to reveal a route into Hell. As soon as the page is uncovered, plagues, deformities and monstrous entities begin to manifest across the globe, hinting that the text describes an actual gateway and that it has just been cracked open.

Drake Stoker, a former Reaper special forces operative who no longer believes in much of anything, is drawn into the crisis. He teams up with a secretive order of Vatican warriors often called Templar Knights, whose archives suggest that generations of their predecessors died trying to keep this same portal sealed.

Much of the tension in the first book comes from the clash between Drakes hardened skepticism and the Knights deep faith, set against outbreaks of possession like symptoms, parasitic infections and sightings of creatures that seem pulled straight from medieval paintings. The journey to close the gate runs through deserts, ancient ruins and finally into territory that feels less like Earth and more like the outer rings of Hell.

The Devil's Peak II picks up with Drake trapped in that infernal landscape, fighting his way through a realm of monsters and damned souls while clinging to the hope of getting home. On the surface, Vatican scholar Isabella Romano races to decode writings that might point toward the Garden of Eden, believed to hold the only cure for a mutagenic plague born from the same breach.

Together the two novels form a single arc about sin, redemption and how much suffering people are willing to endure for a chance to save those they love. The imagery is vivid and often brutal, but the stories keep circling back to small moments of courage and human connection in the middle of apocalyptic disaster.
