The Dark Lords takes Andrews's usual love of dangerous men and dresses it in tailored suits, skyscrapers, private deals, and old family rot. These books sit at the polished end of her dark romance shelf. The heroes are rich, strategic, and very comfortable using status as a weapon, but the violence under the surface never goes away.

The series begins with the Vieri family, especially the men who have learned how to make evil look respectable. Pure Evil sets the tone with Killian Vieri trying to use innocence as part of a revenge plan. A Shade of Evil, Pretty Evil, and Born Evil keep pushing outward, bringing in more family secrets, more business power, and a wider network that starts to feel bigger than one household.

What links the books is the way love becomes part of a scheme before it becomes anything honest. A woman may be brought in as a contract bride, a target, a secret heir, or the weak point in somebody else's plan. The man assumes he is in control. Then the emotional mess begins, and that is where the series gets interesting.

There is also a stronger secret-society feel here than in some of Andrews's other series. Bloodlines matter. Public respectability matters. Hidden ancestry, control of family empires, and who gets access to the next rung of power all matter. That gives the books a slightly colder, more calculating feel than the biker or school stories.

The glamour is real, but so is the rot.
