Series background & context
The Cult of Serendee is one of Lawson's darkest contemporary setups. Serendee looks like a polished urban utopia, but every comfort comes with control, especially for women. In The Order, Imogene is told who she will marry, how she should behave, and what parts of herself belong to the community.
That is the trap.
Her arranged match to Rex, the leader's rebellious son, drags her into a tense knot of desire, punishment, and loyalty. Rex wants out. His three closest friends, Elon, Silas, and Levi, are supposed to prepare Imogene to be his perfect mate, yet they are also the reason she starts seeing how false Serendee really is.
Across Regressive and Indulgent, the series keeps peeling back the fake perfection. Lawson leans into questions of obedience, identity, and what happens when a woman raised inside a system starts to name it for what it is. The romance is dark, the power imbalance is the point, and the mood stays close and claustrophobic. If you want a cult story where the prettiest places hide the ugliest rules, this is the appeal.
