The Colby's Coin Books in Order

The Colby's Coin series is smaller and more intimate than some of Andrea Kane's other historical sets, but it carries a surprisingly dark undercurrent. The heart of these books is the bond between identical cousins Anastasia and Breanna Colby, and the suspense comes as much from family damage as from outside villains.

That relationship is the anchor.

In The Gold Coin, Anastasia comes to live with Breanna after losing her parents. She quickly sees what Breanna has been enduring under her violent father's rule, and the book turns into a story of protection, inheritance, and danger. Anastasia is the more outwardly forceful of the two cousins, and her alliance with Damen Lockewood, Marquess of Sheldrake, gives the story both romantic spark and strategic muscle. The atmosphere is tense because the threat is already inside the household before the larger mystery starts to open.

The Silver Coin shifts the focus to Breanna, which is exactly the right move. In the first book she lives in fear. In the second, Kane gets to explore what happens after fear has shaped someone for years. Breanna has more room to step forward, but the past is not finished with her or Anastasia. An assassin is still stalking them, and the man drawn into the fight this time, Royce Chadwick, is not a soft rescuer. He is clever, skeptical, and used to working alone.

Across both books, the series keeps asking what safety really looks like after long-term harm. The cousins are wealthy on paper, but that never protects them as much as their loyalty to one another does. The heroes matter, of course, but the family bond is what makes these stories feel distinct.

If you like historical romantic suspense that stays close to its characters, with wounded heroines, sharp protectors, inheritance trouble, and a strong women-first emotional core, the Colby books are worth reading in order. The second book lands better because the first has already shown you what Breanna and Anastasia have survived together.
