Burbank and Parker Books in Order

The Burbank and Parker books sit firmly in Andrea Kane's contemporary thriller period and feel a little sharper and darker than some of her earlier standalones. At the center are Sloane Burbank and Derek Parker, two people with law enforcement experience, unfinished history, and no easy way to stay out of each other's orbit when the stakes rise.

Sloane is the key to the tone.

By the time Twisted begins, she is a former FBI special agent recovering from a serious injury and trying to rebuild her working life as a crisis resolution consultant. That makes her capable, but not untouched. When a close childhood friend disappears, she cannot leave the case alone, even though Derek, now an FBI agent working a separate set of crimes, is not exactly thrilled to have her involved. What starts as one disappearance opens into a larger pattern of murdered women and a killer whose obsession turns increasingly personal.

Drawn in Blood keeps the same pair but shifts the pressure point to Sloane's family. After her mother is attacked and it becomes clear the crime was not a simple robbery, Sloane starts uncovering secrets tied to her father's past in the art world. Derek is still in the picture, professionally and emotionally, which lets Kane keep the series grounded in both investigation and trust. The question is not just who is behind the threat. It is what Sloane can reveal, whom she can protect, and what secrets a relationship can survive.

The FBI texture matters here, but the series does not read like a cold procedural. Kane is more interested in pressure, fear, and divided loyalties than in step by step bureaucracy. The New York setting, organized crime edges, and serial violence give the books pace, while the Sloane and Derek dynamic gives them continuity.

If you want a short recurring-duo series with strong romantic tension, dangerous cases, and a heroine who has to rely on more than official authority, Burbank and Parker is a clean place to start. And if you end up wanting more, Lockdown offers a crossover with Forensic Instincts.
