The Cabot Sisters Books in Order

The Cabot Sisters series starts from a terrific predicament. Four stepdaughters of the wealthy Earl of Beckington know that when he dies, their future may rest in the hands of a stepbrother and a fiancée who would be perfectly happy to push them aside. So rather than wait politely for disaster, the sisters begin making plans of their own.

That gives the books a wonderful sense of forward motion. These are Regency romances, yes, but they are also stories about women trying to outmaneuver money, inheritance law, and the smug certainty of men who assume everything will stay in their control. The tone is witty and a little desperate, which is exactly right for the setup.

The Trouble with Honor follows the oldest sister as she hires a notorious rogue to distract the wrong woman and instead gets distracted herself. The Devil Takes a Bride gives Grace Cabot a scheme that veers spectacularly off course. The Scoundrel and the Debutante turns to Prudence, whose reputation is already damaged by family scandal before her own story even begins.

What makes the series so readable is the shared family purpose. Even when one sister has center stage, the others are in the room, worrying, plotting, and making things harder. If you like historical romance with lively heroines and a strong sibling thread, the Cabots are a lot of fun.
