Series background & context

The Augustine Brothers books move Natasha Knight’s brand of dark romance into the city of Avarice, where a crime family wears a mask of legitimacy while settling old scores. The core duet, told in Forgive Me My Sins and Deliver Me From Evil, focuses on Santos Augustine and Madelena De Léon.

In Forgive Me My Sins, Madelena is forced into a blood oath marriage to pay for her father’s betrayals. The first words Santos speaks to her are "Forgive me," as he signs the contract that binds them together. To the outside world, the Augustines are polished businessmen pursuing a place among the city’s elite. Behind that facade, they are reclaiming territory and making examples of anyone who crossed them.

Madelena is thrust into a house full of secrets and rivalries, unsure whether her new husband is her jailer, her shield, or both. Santos is older, calculating, and fighting a war on several fronts. His promise is simple: as long as she wears his ring, no one touches her. The question is what that protection will cost her soul.

Deliver Me From Evil deepens both the romance and the danger. Enemies from inside and outside the family come after Madelena, forcing Santos to show exactly what it means to belong to an Augustine. At the same time, Madelena begins to understand that her father’s sins run deeper than she knew, and that the people she has been told to fear may not be the real monsters.

The duet balances familiar Knight elements arranged marriage, age gap, morally gray hero with a fresh setting and a family whose power is just beginning to solidify. Mentions of self harm and mental health are handled with care, adding emotional weight without overwhelming the love story.

Later books and box sets gather the brothers’ stories together, showing how each man in the Augustine line carries his own cross. If you want a starting point that feels a little more polished and corporate than the Benedettis while still offering the same dark punch, this series is a strong choice.
