Series background & context

The Texas Grooms books are historical romances set in Turnabout, Texas, a small town where a private problem rarely stays private for long. The series begins with Handpicked Husband, when free-spirited photographer Regina Nash must choose a husband from men selected by her grandfather or risk losing custody of her nephew. What starts as an outrageous arrangement brings several newcomers to town, including Adam Barr, and gives the wider series its starting point.

Turnabout is the kind of place where a train arrival, a new shop, or a bit of gossip can change somebody's plans.

Each book follows a different couple, so the romances can be enjoyed on their own. Still, reading in order makes the town feel fuller. Familiar faces turn up again, former heroes and heroines move into the background, and readers get to see the community grow through weddings, new businesses, children, and changing family ties.

The series leans into classic historical-romance setups without making every story feel identical. There are marriages of convenience, reluctant guardians, matchmaking efforts, abandoned children, broken reputations, old secrets, and people trying to make a clean start. In The Bride Next Door, restaurant owner Daisy Johnson and newspaper man Everett Fulton are pushed toward an unwanted marriage after local gossip gets involved. A Family for Christmas brings Eve Pickering, Chance Dawson, and a boy in need of a home together during the holiday season.

The stakes are personal rather than violent. A character may be trying to keep custody of a child, save a livelihood, escape a painful past, or decide whether to trust love after loss. The pressure often comes from family duty, social expectations, and the fear that a hopeful new beginning could disappear.

Christmas and Thanksgiving appear often, but the books aren't only holiday stories. They are warm Western romances about building a life in a place that can be nosy, generous, frustrating, and deeply loyal. Faith is part of the characters' lives, especially when they are faced with hard choices, but the focus stays on the people and their relationships.

Start with Handpicked Husband for the original Turnabout setup. From there, follow the books in order to meet the town's changing cast and its long line of reluctant grooms.
