Series background & context

If the name Teddy Bear Mystery makes you expect something extra soft, these books have a little more bite than that. Set in Silver Hollow, Michigan, the series follows Sasha Silverman, manager of the family-run Silver Bear Shop and Factory. Sasha loves the business, but it keeps putting her uncomfortably close to murder.

Silver Hollow is the kind of town that runs on festivals, gossip, and people who have known each other forever. That makes it cozy, but it also means grudges have deep roots. The shop is not just a cute backdrop. It is the center of Sasha's family life, her work, and a lot of the town's pride, so when trouble shows up, it is never abstract.

Murder keeps interrupting the cute stuff.

The first book, Bearly Departed, starts inside the factory when a pushy sales rep is found dead and Sasha's Uncle Ross falls under suspicion. Later books widen the circle without losing the homey feel: Oktobear Fest brings competition and old rivalries, the Christmas parade turns deadly, a Valentine's wedding goes badly wrong, and a Scottish-themed Highland Fling comes with more conflict than anyone ordered.

Sasha is the engine of the series. She is capable, stubborn, and a little too willing to ask questions when police would rather she stayed out of it. Her sister Maddie, the rest of the Silverman family, and a rotating crowd of townspeople give the books their warmth. Because Sasha is so tied to the business and the community, every case has personal stakes.

Tone wise, these are classic cozy mysteries. The violence stays on the page just enough to matter, but the books are more interested in motives, relationships, and small-town pressure than grim shock value. Macy also likes seasonal details, themed events, and animals, so the atmosphere is a big part of the draw. If you enjoy mysteries where handmade gifts, holiday decorations, and local festivals share space with suspicious neighbors, you will be at home here.

Cute town, messy people.

Read the books in order if you can. Sasha's life changes from book to book, and the ongoing family and community threads land better that way. Start with Bearly Departed, then follow her through Bear Witness to Murder, Have Yourself a Beary Little Murder, Wedding Bear Blues, and Bear a Wee Grudge.
