Series background & context

Technomancer is one of Harrison's clearest science-fantasy blends. It starts with Scott Akin in Tech Mage, where he is described as a new kind of mage, perhaps the first of his kind. That idea, magic meeting advanced technology instead of staying separate from it, is the whole engine of the series.

The books do not stay small for long. Astraeus Station pushes the story off-world. The Grays brings in alien pressure and larger political stakes. Fallen Empire, Intergalactic Union, and Infinite Exploration keep widening the frame again, moving from personal survival to leadership, war, diplomacy, and the question of what humanity becomes once it is operating on an interstellar scale. Scott changes with that scope, which is part of the appeal.

So this is not just a magic series with gadgets added on. It is a full science-fantasy run where the magical breakthrough keeps colliding with stations, aliens, governments, and exploration. The fun comes from watching the frame get larger around one central character.
