Tammara Webber writes contemporary romance for young adult and new adult readers, usually about people trying to sort out love, trust, family pressure, and the gap between how life looks and how it feels. Her books include Easy, the Contours of the Heart novels, and the Between the Lines series. Her work has reached readers in many countries and has been translated into twenty-five languages.
Before writing full-time, Webber held a varied collection of jobs. She has worked as an undergraduate academic advisor, economics tutor, planetarium office manager, radiology call center representative, and tanning salon employee. Her years around university campuses gave her a close view of students making big choices, getting things wrong, and figuring themselves out.
College came later for Webber herself. She returned to school part-time in her mid-thirties intending to study accounting, then finished with a degree in English instead.
Writing was not an instant career plan. At nineteen, she tried to write a historical romance, spent months researching it, and eventually tore up the unfinished manuscript. Years later, she joined her husband in a National Novel Writing Month challenge, spending long days at the keyboard and learning how to finish a draft before trying to perfect it.
A later idea came from watching her son, then an aspiring actor in college. That seed became Between the Lines, a story about young actors working on a movie and dealing with romance, rivalry, privacy, and public attention. Webber self-published the first novel in 2011, then continued the series with Where You Are, Good For You, and Here Without You.
Her 2012 novel Easy shifted the action to a university campus. It follows Jacqueline Wallace after a breakup and an assault, as she struggles with fear, isolation, and questions about whom she can trust. The book found readers quickly through word of mouth, reached bestseller lists, and helped bring wider attention to stories marketed as new adult fiction.
Webber returned to that world in Breakable, which combines Lucas Maxfield's earlier life with his perspective on the events of Easy. The later Contours of the Heart books, Sweet and Brave, follow other connected characters through complicated relationships, old hurts, family conflicts, and difficult decisions. Across the books, romance matters, but so do accountability, recovery, and learning to see another person clearly.
Her characters don't get easy answers just because the story is a love story.
Webber has described herself as a hopeful romantic who likes happy endings because real life supplies enough sad ones. She is married to her high school sweetheart and has three adult children. Her author biographies have also mentioned a busy household of cats, coffee, and a fondness for baby carrots.
