Garrett’s Destiny

by Anna Blakely

2021

Series background & context

Tactical Operations steps slightly outside the formal R.I.S.C. structure and into the world of Tac-Ops Team One, an elite hostage-rescue unit owned by former British intelligence officer Rafe Owens. These operators specialize in missions the government cannot openly touch, slipping into dangerous places to locate, extract, and protect the innocent.

The series opens with Garrett's Destiny. Burned-out Army Ranger Garrett Morgan happily signs on for a rare week-long cruise, hoping for rest and a little anonymity. Instead he meets Avery Webb, a woman daring herself to break out of her predictable routine. Their shipboard fling turns serious when a killer follows them home, and Garrett must rely on his Tac-Ops brothers to keep Avery alive.

In Ethan's Obsession, former Navy SEAL Ethan "Apollo" McAllister is the team's thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie, but the one thing he cannot outrun is his unrequited love for his best friend's girl. Briella Castille, now a sought-after contractor for the Department of Defense, lands in the crosshairs of an enemy tied to her classified work. Forced together on a protection detail, Ethan and Briella get a second chance at the relationship they never quite had.

Beckett's Desire follows Beckett "Bones" Stone, whose gruff exterior hides a deeply romantic heart. After rescuing schoolteacher Evie Mitchell from a violent attack, Beckett cannot shake the connection between them. When evidence suggests the danger is not over, he pulls Evie under Tac-Ops protection and, with help from Delta Team Hawaii, works to dismantle the threat before it strikes again.

The fourth book, Slade's Vow, finally brings the team's enigmatic leader, Slade "Digger" Garrison, face to face with the elusive tech specialist who guides their missions. Alice "Shadow" Owens has always been a disembodied voice in his ear, but when a nightmare from her past resurfaces and she vanishes along with her father, Digger realizes just how much she means to him. The hunt to bring her back becomes as personal as any mission he has ever run.

Tactical Operations novels are fast-paced and cinematic, filled with explosives, extractions, and close-quarters battles, but they never lose sight of the relationship at the center of each story. Fans of Blakely's R.I.S.C. world will recognize familiar tones and occasional crossovers, yet Tac-Ops stands comfortably on its own as a series about found family, redemption, and falling in love under fire.
