Series background & context
The Marked series shifts the action to Denver, where homicide detectives, FBI agents, and private investigators hunt some of the city's most disturbing criminals. Each book zeroes in on a single case, but recurring cops, forensic specialists, and nightclub owners knit the stories into one gritty, shared world.
Everything starts with Marked for Death. Forensic pathologist Dr. Maggie Carpenter is used to speaking for the dead, not working shoulder to shoulder with a federal agent. When Noah Killion asks her to consult on a serial killer who takes trophies from his victims, Maggie's skills and cool head become vital to the investigation, and their professional partnership quickly turns into something more personal.
In Marked for Revenge, paralegal Allie Andrews is still paying the price for doing the right thing. The man she helped put behind bars escapes and begins eliminating everyone connected to his conviction. Allie turns to FBI agent Wade Crenshaw, the one man she swore never to trust again, and together they go on the run while trying to flush out a relentless enemy.
Marked for Deception pairs straight-laced detective Declan King with Skye Lewis, the estranged daughter of an infamous serial killer. Declan is ordered to use her to draw the murderer out, but working with Skye forces him to question his own black-and-white view of justice. From there the series widens to include former SEALs and private investigators tied to Denver's hottest nightclub, Sin. Marked for Obsession, Marked for Danger, and Marked for Disaster follow tough, emotionally guarded men as they protect witnesses, psychiatrists, and women on the run from stalkers, all while uncovering wider conspiracies.
The most recent installment, Marked for Vengeance, closes a long-running trafficking arc. Ex-convict Oliver "Olly" Garcia teams up with Scarlett Hathaway, a woman who has just discovered she has a missing half sister named Rose. Their search takes them deep into a trafficking network and forces Olly to decide how much of his guarded heart he is willing to risk.
Although each Marked novel delivers its own mystery and happily ever after, reading them in order lets you see friendships form inside the Denver Police Department, follow the evolution of the Sin nightclub crew, and watch villains and allies reappear when least expected. The tone is darker than some of Blakely's military romances, but the same focus on justice, resilient survivors, and unwavering love runs through every story.
