2014

Series background & context
The T.J & Blake books are short adventure stories for younger readers, built around two friends who start a tiny business called Treasure Finders. They hang a homemade poster at the local grocery store, take on paying clients, and quickly discover that “finding treasure” often means stepping into other people’s unfinished stories.
In The Big Tip, their first case, elderly Mildred Russell hires them to solve a mystery she has carried since 1951. A letter from a soldier named Bernie promises that he has hidden something valuable just for her—if she can crack the code he buried in his words. T.J. and Blake have to decipher the message, track down old landmarks, and stay ahead of a greedy rival who wants the reward for himself.
It’s less about gold coins and more about memory, promises, and what people choose to leave behind.
Kofi's Plot moves the series to Ghana, where Dr. Simpson and his family are helping to build a medical clinic that will eventually belong to the local community. While exploring, T.J. and Blake uncover a strange object in a farmer’s field that’s crawling with venomous snakes. The land in question has been given to the clinic, but the farmer, Kofi Adofo, has worked it for years and feels betrayed by his own leaders.
As the mystery around the buried object deepens, the kids find themselves caught between the needs of the village, the hopes of the visiting doctors, and Kofi’s determination to protect his way of life. The story threads together code‑breaking, narrow escapes, and questions about fairness, ownership, and what “help” really looks like when outsiders arrive with plans.
Across the series, readers can expect fast‑moving plots, clear moral stakes, and plenty of puzzles to chew on. The tone stays friendly and accessible—aimed at later elementary and early middle‑school readers—but it doesn’t shy away from real‑world tensions, whether they involve family secrets at home or land rights and justice half a world away.
