Author bio
Susanne Valenti is a British romance and fantasy writer who was born in London and now lives in southeast England, near enough to the city to stay connected to it and far enough out to have fields in view. She writes on her own and with her sister Caroline Peckham, though most readers know the pair best as the team behind Zodiac Academy and a long run of dark, fast-moving series in fantasy and romance.
Stories came first.
Valenti has said she was drawing picture books and jotting down ideas as a child, then starting stories as a teenager long before publishing felt like a real plan. The turning point came in 2015, when she and Caroline decided to stop treating authorship like a pipe dream, finished their early manuscripts, and began publishing them. After a few solo projects, they started co-writing in earnest, joking about the power of the sister twin brain, and that partnership quickly became the center of their career.
A lot of her books share a clear signature. The heroines are tough, often dropped into ugly systems and forced to fight back. The worlds are usually high pressure, whether that means a magical academy, a prison, a collapsing city, or a beach town run by gangs. Romance matters, but so do loyalty, revenge, survival, and the mess people make when love and power get tangled together.
That mix is all over Zodiac Academy, the series that brought a huge wave of readers to Valenti and Peckham's work. It throws twin sisters Tory and Darcy Vega into a vicious fae school and then keeps widening into politics, war, prophecy, and romance. Readers who stick with Valenti usually like that exact combination, sharp humor, cliff-hangers, morally messy love interests, and female leads who do not fold just because the world wants them to.
She does not write small feelings in small situations.
Elsewhere, Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac adds a murder mystery to the same fantasy world, The Harlequin Crew leans into second-chance revenge in a sunlit but rotten town, and Kings of Quarantine turns a locked-down academy into a pressure cooker. Her earlier solo dystopian books, including Rebel Rising and Afflicted, show the same taste for danger from a different angle, ruined societies, hidden truths, and characters trying to stay human while everything around them changes.
Valenti also moves easily across subgenres. One series might give you vampires and rebellion, another prison-break fantasy, another dark contemporary gang romance, and another twisted fairy-tale frame. What carries across is pace. Her books move. Even when the setting changes, the emotional engine stays familiar: fierce attachment, constant threat, and people making very bad decisions for reasons that almost make sense.
These days she is still based in the south east of England, where she has said she lives with the husband she met at seventeen and their two children. She has also mentioned running, family chaos, and the everyday juggle around writing, which feels fitting for an author whose books are rarely calm for long. On the page and off it, she comes across as someone who likes big feelings, fast stories, and characters who refuse to stay quiet.
