Starship Omega starts with humanity in a bad spot and then somehow makes the situation worse before offering hope. Earth has fallen under the control of the Ornu. Humans are forced to crew the ships of their conquerors and fight wars on behalf of an empire that keeps the homeworld effectively hostage. Captain Bill Henderson is one of the people trapped in that arrangement, doing what he can inside a system designed to crush resistance.

Then he finds Omega. The ship is ancient, enormous, and mysterious enough to feel like a legend someone forgot to bury properly. It is also exactly the kind of discovery that changes the size of a story. Once Omega enters the picture, the series stops being just about survival under occupation and becomes a rebellion saga, complete with refugees, shaky alliances, and the question of whether humanity can do anything useful with power before losing it again.

If you like ancient super-ship stories with a strong military spine, Starship Omega is easy to settle into. It has big stakes, clean momentum, and a central image that does a lot of work, one battered human captain trying to turn a relic from the dawn of the universe into the future of his species.
