Author bio

Stacy Green is a mystery and thriller writer with deep Iowa roots. She is a native of Van Buren County, grew up in small-town Iowa, and later attended Drake University before starting her working life in journalism.

That reporting background shows up in her fiction. Green likes cases, timelines, motive, and the messy way secrets sit inside families and towns. She moved into fiction after becoming a stay-at-home mother and finding her way back to the kind of stories she had always loved reading, crime fiction with dark corners and human stakes.

The first big part of her backlist grew out of the South. Tin God, the opening book in the Delta Crossroads trilogy, takes readers to Roselea, Mississippi, where Jaymee Ballard’s search for her daughter exposes old crimes and dangerous people. The book was a runner-up for best mystery/thriller in the 2013 Kindle Book Awards.

Then came Lucy Kendall.

In All Good Deeds, Green introduced a former child-protection worker turned private investigator whose anger at predators has pushed her into vigilante territory. The book won a bronze medal in the mystery and thriller category at the 2015 IPPY Awards, and the series remains one of her darkest. Readers who like moral gray areas, uneasy alliances, and damaged characters usually find plenty to chew on there.

Green has also written several series built around investigators trying to carry their own pasts while doing the job. Cage Foster begins in the Mississippi-set Delta books and later moves into his own cases, including The Lies We Bury and The Night He Died. Erin Prince, introduced in Killing Jane, works homicide in Washington, D.C., where Green plays with the shadow of famous killers, including Jack the Ripper and Jekyll-and-Hyde style mythology.

Her widest-running modern series follows FBI Special Agent Nikki Hunt. Starting with The Girls in the Snow, Nikki returns to Stillwater, Minnesota, to investigate murdered teenagers while facing the trauma of her own childhood. Later books such as One Perfect Grave, Lost Angels, and Bone Lake keep the cases tense but also build Nikki’s family life, work team, and ties to the place she once left behind.

There is a pattern across Green’s work. She writes about predators, survivors, small towns with long memories, and investigators who do not get to leave their personal lives at the crime-scene tape.

Green lives in Iowa with her husband, daughter, and their three fur babies. She has continued to publish psychological thrillers, police procedurals, short true-crime pieces, and mystery series that often circle the same question: what happens when the past refuses to stay buried?
