Series background & context

Sparrow Falls is a gothic tinged small town in Oregon, all Victorian houses, towering trees, and a history thick with tragedy. The series begins with Rhodes Stirling returning to the crumbling family home where a fire killed her parents and sister years earlier. She hires Anson Hunt, her brother’s guarded best friend, to restore the house, and quickly discovers that someone does not want the truth about that old fire uncovered.

As the books unfold, the Colson family comes to the fore. Fragile Sanctuary sets the tone with its mix of childhood crush, grumpy builder, and a string of so called accidents that might be something more sinister. Delicate Escape focuses on a woman who has been running for years and the golden boy contractor who keeps showing up at her bakery and eventually in her falling down cabin, determined to make both the building and her sense of safety solid again.

Broken Harbor introduces a single mom who just wants a quiet, happy life for her son, only to find unexpected security with Cope Colson, a professional hockey player known for his brutality on the ice and his care in the kitchen. When danger forces them under one roof, their makeshift family becomes both a target and a refuge. Beautiful Exile gives the spotlight to a heroine who has been hiding under an assumed quiet life for so long she almost believes her own lies. Her brother’s best friend, billionaire and hockey team owner Linc Pierce, moves onto their property, sees through her walls, and ends up standing between her and the enemies hunting her.

Later books like Chasing Shelter and Secret Haven continue threading Colsons, Pierces, and long time friends together. One heroine arrives in town determined to stay invisible and instead lands next to Trace Colson, a single dad sheriff whose instinct is always to step between people and danger. Another finally stops pretending that a childhood connection with Kyler Blackwood was just a phase and must decide whether a marriage-of-convenience style arrangement is worth the very real risks it brings when old enemies close in.

What makes Sparrow Falls feel distinct is how tightly the suspense is woven into the fabric of the town. Fires, sabotage, mysterious accidents, and long buried secrets are not just plot devices but pieces of a larger question about what it means to truly be safe. At the same time, the Colsons’ big, messy family, nosy neighbors, and the constant thread of humor, food, and mutual care keep the series from tipping into bleakness. It is small town romance with a noir edge, built for readers who like their comfort with a side of creeping dread.
