Southern Eclectic Books in Order

The Southern Eclectic books trade vampires and witches for one big, nosy Georgia family, but the appeal is still recognizably Molly Harper. The series is set in Lake Sackett, where the McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop sits right on the water and somehow makes perfect small-town sense. Half the joke is that everybody treats this as normal. The other half is that they are probably right.

The first full novel, Sweet Tea and Sympathy, brings outsider Margot Cary to town and lets readers see the McCreadys through fresh eyes. She expects a detour. What she gets is a loud, loving family, a business that mixes grief with fishing supplies, and a romance with local school principal Kyle Archer. From there the series widens to include other family members and linked novellas that fill in backstory.

That family web is the real engine. Frankie McCready, the county coroner and resident goth, gets her own arc. Older relationships and prequel love stories matter. Weddings, pregnancies, pranks, and long-held grudges all turn into public events because there is no such thing as private business in Lake Sackett. Everybody knows who is dating whom, who is avoiding whom, and who just backed a hearse into something expensive.

These books are contemporary romance, not paranormal, so the stakes are more everyday. Jobs matter. Money matters. Family history matters. People are dealing with grief, relocation, reinvention, and the awkward fact that falling in love rarely fits a neat timeline. Harper keeps all of that light on its feet without making it feel flimsy.

Lake Sackett itself is a big part of the charm. The town is full of gossip, porch talk, odd local traditions, and people who are absolutely going to involve themselves in your life whether you asked or not. That means the romances never unfold in a vacuum. They are always happening inside a whole community with opinions.

If you like small-town romance with a strong ensemble and plenty of family interference, Southern Eclectic is a good bet. Read in publication order if you can, including the novellas. The prequels add a lot to the emotional picture, and the McCreadys make more sense the longer you live with them.
